Birdhouse sampler-free cross-stitch design. Stitch these feathered friends in their cosy birdhouse
as a lasting reminder of the comforts of home.
Home can be wherever you choose but it should always be a place where you feel happy and safe. Having
beautiful things around you can help create that cosy feeling and this gorgeous needlework sampler
will give you a sense of wellbeing whenever you look at it. It’s stitched on dark cream linen, instead of
white, which gives a subtle background colour and shabby chic feel. It makes the perfect background
for the lacy stitch details and pearly seed beads, embellishments that make a pretty finishing touch.
The birds amid the flowers and hearts bring the scene to life. Stitch this picture to welcome you home.
Type of stitches:
Cross stitch, fractionals, backstitch, French knots, beads, Smyrna stitch
You will need
Threads:Stranded cotton as listed in the key
Needle:Size 26 tapestry needle
Fabric:28-count dark cream linen measuring 30x25cm (12×1 Oin)
Extras:Frame of your choice with a minimum aperture of 25×21 cm (10×8¼in)
How to frame your finished work
- If you’re using glass, place the stitched piece into the frame, followed by a mount or spacers. Add the piece of
cross stitch next, followed by another piece of mountboard. Insert a panel pin into the centre of each side of the frame to secure all the layers, then turn the frame over to the right side.
- Check that your stitching is perfectly positioned before you begin inserting the rest of the panel pins. Space
pins evenly every 5-8cm, placing some close to each corner. Use strips of acid-free, gummed tape to cover gaps, and add fitments of your choice.
